Tell me a little about yourself and how you got into the outdoor world.
I’m Manuel Araújo, #OutdoorLover and CEO of Exploramás Experiences with Purpose, a company that my wife and I founded 25 years ago.
What is your favorite adventure sport and why?
Without a doubt, my favorite sport is canyoning, although I also enjoy other outdoor sports. I love the visits that nature offers us. With canyoning, you have a real immersion in it, never better said.
Could you share your best memory or experience practicing this sport?
I can not stay with only one memory, but with all the times I have taken clients to do this experience. Their face of joy, happiness, surprise… multiplies my sensations x10.
I would do it a thousand times!
What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the outdoor sector (or your sport) today?
There are several very important challenges, here are some of them that we are working on in Andalucía EcoActiva:
Environmental Sustainability: We all love to enjoy nature, but if we are not careful, we can damage it. Trash, overuse of resources and lack of respect for ecosystems can destroy the places we want to visit. It is crucial to be responsible and take care of the environment. Of course, Climate Change affects us directly by heat waves, unexpected rains or even droughts like the ones we are experiencing.
Regulation and Legislation: Rules and regulations can be complicated and vary widely. Having a clear and consistent framework would help businesses operate more easily and safely, without compromising the well-being of the environment and tourists.
Competition and Market Saturation: More and more people want to enjoy nature, which is great, but can lead to certain places becoming too crowded. This can ruin the experience and damage the natural environment. A balance has to be found.
In summary, for active tourism to continue to grow in a healthy and sustainable way in Spain, it is essential that we all do our part: tourists, companies and authorities.
That way we can continue to enjoy incredible adventures in nature!
What advice would you give to someone who has never practiced this adventure sport?
To hire a company with proven experience. The guides will multiply the positive sensations. In addition, of course, to ensure safety and provide quality material and equipment.
What activity of the RocRoi platform would you like to do that you haven’t tried yet?
Looking at your page now, I’ve been surprised to find that I’ve done absolutely all of them, many of them at a professional level and others at a personal level. Although there is one that I would love to repeat, which is hydrospeed.
