WHAT IS ROCROI AND WHO IS BEHIND IT
The 80s
The Rabaneda brothers, Carlos and Lluís, from the Pyrenees of Lleida, see the Noguera Pallaresa river as an increasingly important source of fun.
Until one day, almost without realising it, they become professional kayakers and start living adventures in more and more places around the world.
One day, back in the 90s, they wonder whether they could turn their passion for nature, adventure and the joy of the outdoors into a business, just as they had always done.
Why not?
And so, in Llavorsí, the town the Noguera Pallaresa runs through (their river “of always”), RocRoi was born in spring 1996.
Since then...
Adventure activities such as kayaking (of course!), rafting, hiking and mountain biking were the first, all from the heart of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, in Llavorsí. At the roots.
The key to understanding the leap RocRoi made lies in how the brothers conceived these experiences. More than just having a good time outdoors, they always tried to make adventurers aware of their own ideals:
  • If tourism wasn’t sustainable for the future of the planet, it wasn’t tourism.
  • If activities didn’t bring people closer to nature, they weren’t activities for them.
  • If the plans didn’t excite the participants, they didn’t consider them plans.
  • If experiences didn’t promote social and environmental commitment, they would never be RocRoi experiences.
And so it was: with this philosophy applied to their own experiences, RocRoi grew its network of centres, from one to four nationwide and opening two international ones, in Argentina and Greenland.
What is RocRoi today?
Today, more than 25 years after that idea, RocRoi is inevitably linked to adventure sports in our country, and a benchmark even beyond our borders.
What started with two brothers is today a team of more than 50 people, experts and guides, who share the company’s principles and enjoy the experiences just as much as the adventurers who dare to try them at any of the RocRoi centres.
Quality outdoor adventures on the river, on a lake, at sea or in the snow; for families, couples, groups of friends, colleagues or end-of-year school trips; for one-off activities or for summer camps and campuses; for national or international clients; whatever the case, the philosophy will always be the same.
Because the excellence of our materials and facilities, our evolution to adapt to the times, our constant drive to improve… all of that has also been important to get this far, but the whole RocRoi family knows perfectly well that the real reason has been not forgetting why Carlos and Lluís took the first step in 1996.
