Kayak Hoces del Cabriel · Open Kayak Whitewater (Valencia)

Venta del Moro, Valencia

Kayaking on the Hoces del Cabriel means an open kayak for one, not a shared raft. You set your own line through Grade II rapids, between limestone canyons, poplar and willow woodland and the elusive presence of raptors and otters. A Biosphere Reserve one hour from Valencia.

Three hours on the river with a qualified guide who teaches paddling technique before you set off. The canyon only opens up when you paddle through it.

  • Level 2 Beginner · from age 10 with an adult
  • Solo open kayak · Grade II rapids
  • Birds of prey, otters and Biosphere Reserve waters

The Kayak Hoces del Cabriel experience

Kayaking on the Hoces del Cabriel means a solo open kayak: a stable craft that lets you set your own line at every rapid. The descent runs through the Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park, a Biosphere Reserve, between limestone canyons and poplar and willow woodland. Three hours paddling on crystal-clear water.

The activity starts at the Albergue Hoces del Cabriel in Venta del Moro. The team hands out wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid and paddle. The qualified guide spends the first few minutes on paddling technique: how to hold the paddle, how to correct your line and what to do if you capsize. Just enough to get on the river with a clear head.

The route gradually opens the canyon. The Grade II rapids come in short bursts: strong pulse, coordinated strokes, the kayak running clean once it finds the line. Between rapids, the river widens and reveals what you can't see from the road: raptors circling above the cliff faces, the occasional otter tucked into the bank, limestone walls closing suddenly around you. The guides have been reading these waters for 30 years, so the calls come in right before each tricky turn.

The session ends when the group reunites at the take-out, after the final rapids. You've descended one of the three cleanest and best-preserved rivers in Europe with no one else in your kayak. Just you, the paddle and the Cabriel.

What the experience feels like

Families: Solo open kayak from age 10: each child steers their own boat and the qualified guide sets the group's pace. Real adventure, not a shared raft.

Couples: A paddle each, Grade II rapids in shared silence and the Cabriel canyon opening up at the pace of the poplars and willows. Individual adventure with a two-person view.

Groups of friends: Three hours reading the river in your own kayak, the odd safe capsize and the satisfaction of descending Biosphere Reserve waters without depending on anyone behind you.

FAQs

Is the kayak hard to handle if I've never paddled before?

No. The open kayak is a stable model built for beginners. The qualified guide spends the first few minutes on paddling technique: how to hold the paddle, how to correct your line and what to do if you capsize. Most people find their confidence within the first 100 metres.

From what age can children join?

From age 10 with an adult, provided they can swim. For younger children we recommend other Cabriel options in our catalogue: rafting is accessible from age 8 in a shared raft with the guide directing the line.

How does it differ from rafting or canoraft?

Kayaking is solo: each participant paddles their own boat and sets their own line. Rafting uses an inflatable raft for 6–8 people with a guide on board. The canoraft is a two-person inflatable canoe, a hybrid format between kayaking and rafting. Kayaking demands more independence and technique.

What wildlife and scenery can you see on the descent?

The descent runs through the Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park, a Biosphere Reserve. The landscape is limestone canyons with riverside woodland of poplars and willows; between rapids you may spot birds of prey circling the cliff faces and, with luck, otters on the bank.

What do I need to bring?

Swimsuit, towel, change of clothes for afterwards and footwear that can get wet (no flip-flops). RocRoi provides wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid, paddle and kayak.

Canoraft Hoces del Cabriel · Whitewater Two-Person (Valencia)

Canoraft Hoces del Cabriel · Whitewater Two-Person (Valencia)

Venta del Moro, Valencia

Canoraft is the hybrid format between a canoe and a raft: a two-person inflatable craft, more stable than a rigid kayak but just as agile. Here you are the captain — you and your partner.

Two and a half hours coordinating your paddles through the rapids of the Hoces del Cabriel, with a qualified guide who teaches you to read the river. Crystal-clear water one hour from Valencia.

  • Level 2 Beginner · from age 8 with an adult
  • Two-person inflatable canoe · hybrid canoraft format
  • Natural Park waters · limestone canyon gorges

The Canoraft Hoces del Cabriel experience

Canorafting on the Hoces del Cabriel means a two-person inflatable canoe: more stable than a rigid kayak, with all its manoeuvrability. Two paddlers, two paddles, the Cabriel river as your track. The descent runs through the Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park, a pristine riverside ecosystem where limestone formations create deep gorges and the riverbed is visible right to the bottom.

The activity starts at the Albergue Hoces del Cabriel in Venta del Moro. The team hands out wetsuits, helmets, buoyancy aids and two paddles per canoe. The qualified guide spends the first few minutes teaching you to read the river from scratch: how to coordinate strokes with your partner, how to enter a rapid and what to do if you end up in the water. Which is likely. And that's part of the fun.

The route enters the Hoces rapids. The canoe responds instantly: a good stroke and it straightens up; a bad one and you're in the reeds. Between demanding sections, the river calms and the canyon opens up. Crystal-clear water, full visibility to the bottom, limestone walls. Then another rapid, and back to coordinating again.

The session ends at the take-out, where the team collects you. You've steered your own canoe down one of the three cleanest and best-preserved rivers in Europe. A restorative shower at the hostel, and you're done.

What the experience feels like

Families: A two-person canoe with an adult and a child from age 8: the perfect crew for children to feel they are steering in whitewater for the first time.

Couples: Two paddlers, two paddles and a river that forces you to coordinate in silence. The Hoces del Cabriel is the setting where couples discover whether they paddle in sync or end up in the reeds. Both make a good story.

Groups of friends: One canoe per pair, friendly rivalry between boats and the freedom to push ahead or hang back as each pair sees fit. A plan that works for small groups and keeps rewarding itself throughout the day.

FAQs

What exactly is a canoraft?

It is a two-person inflatable craft, more stable than a rigid kayak but just as agile. It carries two paddlers with double-blade paddles and allows you to set your own line through the rapids. It is a hybrid format between a solo canoe and a rafting raft, designed for beginner whitewater.

How does it differ from rafting or open kayak?

Rafting uses an inflatable raft for 6–8 people with a guide on board directing the line. The open kayak is solo, one person per boat. The canoraft is two-person: both paddlers coordinate in the same canoe with no guide on board, following guides who accompany the group from separate craft.

From what age can children join?

From age 8 with an adult, provided they can swim. It is one of the most family-friendly descents on the Cabriel: the adult steers from the back and the child paddles in the front of the same canoe.

Is it hard to handle the canoe if we've never paddled?

No. The two-person inflatable canoe is very stable and designed not to capsize easily. The qualified guide spends the first few minutes on paddling technique and coordination between the two paddlers. Learning the basics in those first minutes is more than enough to enjoy it.

What do I need to bring?

Swimsuit, towel, change of clothes for afterwards and footwear that can get wet (no flip-flops). RocRoi provides wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aids, paddles and canoe.

Rafting Hoces del Cabriel · Family Beginner on the Cabriel River (Valencia)

Rafting Hoces del Cabriel · Family Beginner on the Cabriel River (Valencia)

Venta del Moro, Valencia

The Cabriel is not just any river. It is one of the three cleanest in Europe and is descended by inflatable raft between limestone canyons and poplar-lined banks, inside a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Tamayo stretch — eight kilometres of rapids calibrated for beginners — takes children from age 8 with a qualified guide in command.

When the descent ends, a hot shower awaits at the hostel in Venta del Moro. A morning or afternoon outing one hour from Valencia.

  • Level 2 Beginner · from age 8 with an adult
  • 8 km of the Tamayo stretch · 2 effective hours on the river
  • Biosphere Reserve waters · hot shower at the end

The Rafting Hoces del Cabriel experience

Rafting on the Hoces del Cabriel centres on the Tamayo stretch: eight kilometres of clear water inside the Natural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The inflatable raft descends between limestone canyons and poplar-lined banks. Beginner rapids, controlled pace, scenery that demands attention.

The activity starts at the Albergue Hoces del Cabriel in Venta del Moro. The team hands out wetsuit, helmet and certified buoyancy aid, checked after every outing. The qualified guide runs the briefing before loading the rafts: how to hold the paddle, how to sit, what to do if you fall in. Clear and to the point. Enough to enter the water with a clear head.

The descent moves through rapids that demand synchronised paddling and calm stretches where the river commands all the attention. The Cabriel is officially one of the three cleanest and best-preserved rivers in Europe, and you can tell: the riverbed stones are clearly visible from the raft. There are sections where the river widens and the group can swim if the guide allows it. And if anyone ends up in the water, the guides — who know every stone of the riverbed — recover them with a smile.

The session ends with the final rapids of the Tamayo stretch and the raft leaving the canyon towards the pick-up zone. After eight kilometres of pure Cabriel, a hot shower waits at the hostel. Clean plan.

What the experience feels like

Families: Rapids calibrated so that eight-year-olds finish asking for another go, on a Cabriel so clean it seems designed to show children what a river looks like without filters.

Couples: Eight kilometres paddling together on one of the three cleanest rivers in Europe, with calm stretches for conversation and enough rapids to know when to stop talking.

Groups of friends: Coordination, at least one guaranteed spill and the Tamayo stretch as the perfect excuse for the afternoon to end with a hot shower and helpless laughter.

Via Ferrata Venta del Moro · K3 with Tibetan Bridge (Hoces del Cabriel, Valencia)

Venta del Moro, Valencia

The Venta del Moro via ferrata climbs the limestone walls that frame the Hoces del Cabriel, secured by a continuous safety line. A K3-grade route with a Tibetan bridge as its highlight and panoramic views over the river basin.

Three hours of controlled adrenaline with a qualified guide, suitable from age 8 with an adult. Zero prior technical requirements.

  • Level 2 Beginner · K3 grade · from age 8 with an adult
  • Continuous safety line · Tibetan bridge · no prior requirements
  • Limestone walls with views over the Hoces del Cabriel

The Venta del Moro via ferrata experience

The Venta del Moro via ferrata runs along the limestone walls framing the Hoces del Cabriel. It is a K3-grade route, secured by a continuous steel cable safety line with iron rungs fixed into the rock. No prior technical requirements. Just your head, your hands and your boots.

The activity starts at the Albergue Hoces del Cabriel in Venta del Moro. The team hands out helmet, harness and via ferrata lanyard with energy absorber, and the qualified guide spends the first few minutes on the technical briefing: how to clip in, how to change cable sections, how to place your foot on the rung. Then a short approach walk to the start of the route.

The route climbs the wall in successive sections. Well-positioned rungs, steel cable always within reach, views opening up over the Cabriel basin with every step. The K3 grade is demanding without being technical: trust the system, clip in properly and keep your feet moving. The landscape of rocky ridges and Mediterranean scrubland shifts the mood every few metres.

The climax comes at the Tibetan bridge. That is where the heart beats hardest as the ground disappears below your boots. And once you have crossed it, what remains is the feeling of having conquered the wall.

What the experience feels like

Families: From age 8 with an adult: the child climbs clipped to the same safety line as their parents, with accessible rungs and the Tibetan bridge as the story to tell at school.

Couples: A friendly K3 with a Tibetan bridge as the centrepiece and the Cabriel basin spread below. A high-altitude plan with no climbing skills required.

Groups of friends: Three hours clipped to the steel cable, a few trembling legs on the Tibetan bridge and a summit photo with the Hoces del Cabriel in the background.

What is included in the RocRoi experience?

  • Full technical equipment (helmet, harness, via ferrata lanyard with energy absorber) — excludes items the client must bring
  • Qualified guide
  • Accident insurance
  • Civil liability insurance
  • Cancellation Policy: Up to 5 days before: full refund. Up to 48 hours before: date change or «ADVENTURE voucher».

FAQs

What grade is the Venta del Moro via ferrata?

It is K3 grade, a beginner-to-intermediate route that combines vertical sections with a Tibetan bridge. The official scale runs from K1 (very easy) to K6 (extreme). K3 is physically demanding but accessible with no prior climbing or via ferrata experience.

Do I need arm strength or climbing experience?

No. The route is secured by a continuous safety line and the iron rungs distribute effort between arms and legs, like climbing a vertical ladder. No climbing technique required. The qualified guide gives the briefing before you start.

From what age can children take part?

From age 8 with an adult. It is one of the most accessible via ferratas for introducing children to vertical terrain: the rungs are within reach and the adult can follow right behind, supervising every clip.

What if I have vertigo?

A certain amount of respect is perfectly normal, especially on the Tibetan bridge. If vertigo is severe, this activity is not recommended. If it is moderate, the qualified guide accompanies you at the most exposed points and teaches you to focus on the wall rather than the drop.

What equipment is included and what do I need to bring?

RocRoi provides helmet, harness and via ferrata lanyard with energy absorber. You need to bring sports shoes with a good sole or hiking boots (no flip-flops) and appropriate sports clothing for the weather.

  • Level 2 Beginner · from age 17 with companion
  • Outdoor field · capacity up to 100 people
  • 100 paintballs included · marker, mask, overalls and neck guard

The Paintball Venta del Moro experience

Paintball in Venta del Moro is played on an outdoor field with uneven terrain, where the Mediterranean scrubland, pine trees and low brush are as much a part of the game as the artificial obstacles. Capacity up to 100 people. A plan built for large groups.

The activity starts at the Albergue Hoces del Cabriel in Venta del Moro. The team hands out a semi-automatic marker, protective mask, camouflage overalls and neck guard, with 100 paintballs per player. The qualified guide gives a clear briefing before the first shot: how to load the marker, safety rules and game modes.

The game starts with the whistle. From that point, your friends are the enemy and every pine tree or obstacle wall becomes a potential hiding spot. An hour and a half of games: team battles, capture the flag, defence and assault. The uneven terrain forces you to crouch, cover flanks and coordinate fire. And yes, the odd hit does sting a bit. That's the point.

The climax is usually the final game — the one played when the whole group is exhausted but the ammo is still warm. Between splashes of colour and the final whistle, all that's left is the helpless laughter of whoever won. It's the reset you needed.

What the experience feels like

Groups of friends: An hour and a half of games on an outdoor field with pine trees, scrubland and obstacles to hide behind. Capacity up to 100 players. Perfect for stag and hen dos, corporate team building and birthday groups from age 17.

FAQs

Does getting hit hurt?

It feels like a quick pinch. With the camouflage overalls, protective mask, neck guard and minimum safety distance, the adrenaline means you barely notice during the game. You might have a small mark afterwards, but it fades within a couple of days.

What is the minimum age?

From age 17 with an adult companion, and from age 18 independently. The outdoor paintball at Venta del Moro is designed for groups from that age upwards, given the power of the markers and federation safety rules.

What kit is included and what do I need to bring?

RocRoi provides a semi-automatic marker, protective mask, camouflage overalls, neck guard and 100 paintballs per player. You need to bring sports clothing you don't mind getting paint on, and sports shoes with good grip or hiking boots.

What is the maximum group size?

Up to 100 people. The field and technical equipment are set up for large groups, making this one of the few paintball venues in the Valencia area capable of hosting large stag and hen dos, corporate team-building events or whole school year groups.

What type of events is this ideal for?

Stag and hen dos, corporate team building, birthday groups from age 17, large group get-togethers and weekend activities in the Cabriel area. If you want to combine it with another activity (rafting, canyoning, via ferrata), it can be arranged from the same base.

The route moves through calm, crystal-clear water. The sensation is of floating: the board glides and the water lets you see every stone on the riverbed as if through glass. The group follows the qualified guide's pace — they know every corner of the stretch. There are stops for a swim if the group asks, moments of silence to listen to the river, and just enough effort to stay upright.

The finale comes when the group stops at a wide, open section and everyone can jump in. You have paddled two hours on one of the three cleanest, best-preserved rivers in Europe. The mental reset happens by itself.

FAQs

Is it hard to keep your balance on the board?

No. The boards are wide and stable, designed for beginners. The qualified guide spends the first minutes on body position and basic technique: how to kneel to start and how to stand up. Most people find their confidence within the first 100 metres.

Will I get very wet?

A tumble is likely, especially when standing up for the first time. But the water on the middle reaches of the Cabriel is clear and clean, so any fall feels more like a voluntary swim than a scare.

From what age can teenagers take part?

From age 14 with an adult companion. It is a beginner route on calm water, ideal for a first experience of stand-up paddle without the challenges of SUP on open sea.

What is the difference from paddleboarding at sea?

River SUP is done on calm water with no swell or undertow. The board moves at your pace and the feeling of stability is greater. The Cabriel is also crystal clear — you can see the riverbed, which you cannot do at sea.

What equipment is included and what do I need to bring?

RocRoi provides a SUP board, paddle, buoyancy aid and wetsuit if needed. You need to bring swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes for afterwards and footwear that can get wet (flip-flops not permitted).

The Canyoning Las Chorreras del Cabriel experience

Canyoning at Las Chorreras del Cabriel is not a technical descent: it is a water route. The site is in Enguídanos, where the river has spent millennia sculpting pools, jumps and natural slides into limestone and tufa rock. No ropes. One hundred per cent water.

The activity starts at the Albergue Hoces del Cabriel in Venta del Moro. The team hands out wetsuit, suitable footwear and a certified helmet, and the qualified guide gives a clear briefing before heading to the canyon. The route moves between limestone tufa formations and turquoise water of extreme purity. The polished stone natural slides work on their own. The pools invite you in to swim between the walls. There are jumps — small, optional — and if anyone hesitates, the guides, who know every stone of this canyon, show the easy way down. The Cabriel is officially one of the three cleanest and best-preserved rivers in Europe: the water feels different from the very first pool.

Caving at Cueva de las Maravillas · Family Introduction in Venta del Moro (Valencia)

Caving at Cueva de las Maravillas · Family Introduction in Venta del Moro (Valencia)

Venta del Moro, Valencia

The Cueva de las Maravillas is explored by head-torch light through the karst formations of Venta del Moro. Limestone galleries, stalactites, stalagmites and chambers that look like stone cathedrals: three hours on a beginner route with a qualified guide.

Near the Hoces del Cabriel, one hour from Valencia. A very different plan.

  • Level 2 Beginner · from age 8 with an adult
  • Karst galleries · stalactites · cathedral chambers
  • 3 hours underground · no technical requirements

The Cueva de las Maravillas caving experience

Caving in the Cueva de las Maravillas unfolds by head-torch light. The cave sits within the karst formations of Venta del Moro, near the Hoces del Cabriel, and is explored like a natural labyrinth: you have to crouch, observe and touch the damp rock. It is not a museum corridor. It is a beginner route.

The activity starts at the Albergue Hoces del Cabriel in Venta del Moro. The team hands out a high-power head torch helmet and, where the cave requires it, protective overalls. The qualified guide gives a clear briefing before heading underground: how to move through narrow passages, how to angle your light to avoid blinding the person ahead, and what to touch and what to leave alone.

Once inside, the cave imposes its own climate: constant temperature, high humidity and silence. The route moves through limestone galleries, stalactites hanging at helmet height, stalagmites that took millennia to form and tufa formations. Some stretches require crouching. Others open into chambers where the walls recede in every direction.

The climax comes in one of the cathedral chambers: the head torch reaches the ceiling and the true scale is revealed. Turning off the light for a moment is optional. The guides, who know every crack of the Cueva de las Maravillas, choose the moment. And yes, you will come out with mud on your overalls. That is the sign you genuinely enjoyed it.

What the experience feels like

Families: High-powered head torch helmets, cathedral-like chambers and a qualified guide who narrates every stalactite: caving from age 8 turns an afternoon into an explorer's expedition.

Couples: Three hours underground in the Cueva de las Maravillas, where silence commands and the temperature never changes. A completely different plan for the area.

Groups of friends: A natural labyrinth, a few tricky crawls and the group photo with everyone covered in mud. An alternative plan for a stag or hen do like no other.

Is it dangerous if I have claustrophobia?

The Cueva de las Maravillas is a beginner route with mostly spacious chambers, but it also passes through narrower stretches where you need to crouch. From age 8 with an adult. It is a highly visual and safe activity for young participants: discovering stalactites, stalagmites and cathedral-like chambers by head-torch light almost always feels like an explorer's expedition.

Are there bats in the cave?

Bats are the cave's natural inhabitants and can be seen hanging from the ceiling, especially in the higher sections. They are harmless and their space is respected throughout the route. The guide points out where they are and explains their ecological role.

What equipment is included and what do I need to bring?

RocRoi provides a high-power head torch helmet and, where the cave requires it, protective overalls. You need to bring sports clothing that you don't mind getting dirty, sports shoes with a good sole that can get wet, and spare footwear for afterwards.
