Interview with Mimi Costa: Passion for Nature and Family Rafting

From an early age, Mimi has felt a deep connection with the natura, a bond that has strengthened over the years and shaped his life.

Although motherhood has brought changes, her love of the outdoors remains a constant, especially in her passion for rafting, which she now shares with her family.

Discovering Nature from Childhood

Could you tell us a little about yourself and how you got into the outdoor world?

Mimi: Since I was 3 years old, my parents took me every summer to Pallars, a region that has become a second home for me. There, surrounded by mountains and rivers, I learned to appreciate the serenity and beauty of nature.

The hikes in the mountains, the whole days outdoors, and this direct connection with the natural environment were fundamental in shaping my love for the outdoors. Over time, even though I left some of these excursions aside, my affection for Pallars and the natural environment has never disappeared. This love of nature is something I have tried to keep alive, even as the responsibilities of adulthood and motherhood have changed my pace of life.

Rediscovering Family Rafting

What is your favorite adventure sport and why?

Mimi: I used to be much more adventurous, and I tried everything: hiking, climbing, and even the occasional outdoor sport. But motherhood changes many things, including priorities and the way you deal with risks. Nowadays, rafting is my favorite.

We do it every year with my husband and daughter, and we love it. It is an activity in which I feel safe and calm, which is very important to me as a mother. In addition, it is wonderful to be able to share such an exciting adventure as a family, feel the adrenaline together and at the same time enjoy the beauty of the river and its surroundings.

Unforgettable Memories in the Water

Could you share your best memory or experience practicing this sport?

Mimi: During my teenage years, those summers at the Pallars with my group of friends were unforgettable. We always did rafting and lived it without fear and with an intensity that I now find in missing The river became our adventure park, where every descent was a new story to tell.

Although this sense of unbridled adventure has diminished over the years, the memories and laughter are still very much present. That stage taught me to enjoy life to the fullest, to savor every moment and to value the experiences shared with loved ones.

Current Challenges of the Outdoor World

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the outdoor industry today?

Mimi: I’m a mother of a family who stays with friends to go for walks and who in the summer cheers up with the occasional adventure. So, honestly, I’m not very aware of the specific challenges facing the industry.

But I imagine that, as with everything, safety and accessibility must be important aspects to consider. I also think there is a challenge when it comes to keeping alive the connection with nature in an increasingly digital world. It is vital that the new generations understand the importance of taking care of our environment and that they see outdoor activities as a way to do so.

Goals and New Challenges

Could you tell us about any prize, championship or medal you have won and how you experienced it?

Mimi: At the moment, I don’t have one, but I have decided to take part in a charity race in 2025, even if it’s just one. It’s a personal challenge that motivates me a lot. I think it’s important to have goals that push you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to improve.

Taking part in a race would not only be a way for me to stay active, but also to contribute to a good cause, which I find doubly rewarding.

Tips for Dummies in Rafting

What advice would you give to someone who has never done this adventure sport before?

Mimi: I would tell them to leave the fear at home. Rafting is a fun sport to share with the family. And if someone like me, who is one of the most worried people in the world, feels safe doing it, it’s because the safety is really good.

For me, it’s crucial to feel calm, and rafting allows me to do that. My advice is to trust the guides, listen to the instructions and enjoy the moment. It is an experience that connects you with nature in a unique way and leaves you with unforgettable memories.

New Adventures with RocRoi

What RocRoi platform activity would you like to do that you haven’t tried yet?

Mimi: Whoa! New challenges are always welcome, but after rafting, I don’t know what the next step would be… We’ll have to find out! I am very intrigued by the idea of trying the canyoning, although it gives me some respect.

However, I am sure that with the right equipment and expert RocRoi guides, it could be an amazing experience. I’d also like to explore snow activities, something I haven’t done in depth yet.
