What the experience feels like
Families: the via ferrata is the first vertical challenge for children from 10 years: hands on rock, feet on rungs, body gaining height metre by metre. The Tibetan bridge is the moment children talk about when they get home. The instructor adjusts the pace and no one moves to the next section until the previous one is sorted.
Couples: three hours climbing a wall with the waterfall beside you and the village of Broto growing smaller below as you gain height. The Broto plan that features in no conventional Ordesa National Park itinerary.

Practical details – Via Ferrata Sorrosal Broto
The Sorrosal via ferrata is accessible with no prior climbing experience. The instructor explains the safety technique with the via ferrata lanyard and how to progress vertically before starting. The most demanding section is the Tibetan bridge, where the instructor manages the group’s passage one by one.
- Minimum age: 10 years with a responsible adult (approximately 120-130 cm in height) / 18 years unaccompanied.
- Total duration: 3 hours (2 hours 30 minutes of actual activity).
- Fitness: normal arm and leg mobility; no disabling vertigo; basic grip strength.
- Limitations: not recommended for pregnant women, people with severe vertigo, active shoulder or wrist problems; do not participate under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication affecting balance or coordination.
- Weather: the activity is subject to weather conditions. The instructor checks conditions and makes the final decision on departure to ensure safety.
- Attitude: trust the anchors, always maintain three points of contact, and listen to the instructor at exposed passages.

Is the Via Ferrata del Sorrosal suitable for people with no climbing experience?
Yes. It is rated K2, beginner-to-intermediate, designed for newcomers with normal fitness and no disabling vertigo. The instructor teaches the progression technique before you enter the route: how to clip the lanyards, how to advance with three points of contact and how to manage the more exposed passages. No prior climbing is required.
What is the via ferrata energy absorber and what does it do?
The energy absorber is the safety element that absorbs the impact of a potential fall on a via ferrata. It connects to the harness and clips onto the route cables. Unlike a simple carabiner, the absorber reduces the force on the body in the event of a slip. It is included in the equipment the instructor provides and is mandatory throughout the route.
How is the Via Ferrata del Sorrosal different from the Sorrosal Canyon?
The via ferrata is dry climbing: sports clothing, mountain footwear, iron cables and rungs on the wall, no water. It climbs alongside the waterfall but does not enter it. The Sorrosal Canyon is canyoning: wetsuit, abseiling inside the water and the active gorge. The ferrata is the vertical without getting wet; the canyon is the descent through the water. Both share the same starting point in Broto.
Is the Broto council fee included?
Yes. Broto council manages the maintenance and safety of the Sorrosal via ferrata anchors and charges an access fee. That fee is included in the RocRoi activity price: nothing extra needs to be paid at the meeting point.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day?
The activity is subject to weather conditions. Heavy rain, lightning or very strong wind may require cancellation or rescheduling. The instructor checks conditions before departure and makes the final call. If cancelled due to conditions, a date change or ADVENTURE voucher is offered at no penalty.
