View photos
The Parc Olímpic del Segre is no improvised river: it is the whitewater canal designed for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, with hydraulic-engineered rapids and a pumped flow that guarantees the same intensity every day of the year, rain or shine, snowmelt or drought. One hour, a qualified instructor, all gear included, and the rapids that once timed the world's greatest canoeists. No uncertainty about water levels, with views of the Serra del Cadí and ten minutes from Andorra.
- Beginner level: no prior experience, suitable from 9 years old with an adult
- Guaranteed flow all year round: pumping system independent of snowmelt
- Olympic venue Barcelona '92: the only Olympic whitewater course in Spain

FAQs
Do I need to wait for the river to have good flow to go rafting in La Seu d’Urgell?
No. Unlike natural rivers, the Parc Olímpic del Segre canal has a mechanical regulation system that guarantees an optimal flow throughout the year. It does not depend on rainfall or Pyrenean snowmelt: a rafting booking has the same intensity in May as in August.
What difficulty level are the rapids on the Olympic canal?
The canal rapids are class II-III, rated as beginner level. They are accessible for people with no prior rafting experience and dynamic enough to keep the adrenaline going throughout the full hour of descent. A qualified instructor accompanies the group at all times and adjusts the pace to the group’s ability.
Why was the Parc Olímpic del Segre canal built?
The canal was built between 1989 and 1992 as the venue for the whitewater canoe slalom events at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games — marking the return of the discipline to the Olympics after a twenty-year absence. Since then it has hosted the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championship (1999, 2009, 2019 and 2027) and multiple ICF World Cup rounds. It is the only Olympic whitewater course in Spain open to the public.
Can children go rafting in La Seu d’Urgell?
Yes. Rafting on the Olympic canal is suitable for children from 9 years old accompanied by an adult. The controlled conditions of the canal — constant flow, predictable rapids, no natural river surprises — make it one of the safest environments for children to have their first whitewater experience.
Is the rafting activity in La Seu d’Urgell close to Andorra?
Yes. La Seu d’Urgell is 10 km from the Andorran border (15–20 minutes by car). Rafting on the Olympic canal is the closest water adventure activity to the Principality — ideal as a complement to a shopping or ski trip to Andorra, or as a day out from anywhere in the region.
