The experience — Sunrise from the Montsec

The morning paragliding flight over Àger begins before the sun warms the rock. At that hour — between 8:00 and 9:30 am — the Serra del Montsec generates no thermal currents. Nothing rises, nothing pushes. The result is a clean, predictable tandem descent of a stability that only exists in these laminar air conditions.

The activity begins at the Àger base. The technical team hands over the helmet, harness with integrated airbag and emergency parachute. All certified. And after a brief, practical talk — nothing laborious — participants board the minibus or 4x4 that heads up to one of the five Montsec take-off points. The altitude covered ranges between 600 and 1,050 metres above the Àger Valley.

Take-off is ten metres running on a green hillside. The wing inflates, your feet leave the ground and a glide of between 5 and 15 minutes begins where the only sound is the wind in the canopy. Below, the Noguera region opens up with the Canelles reservoir and the profile of the Mont-rebei Gorge in the distance. But nothing shakes. The flight descends straight, without sharp turns or unexpected climbs.

And if at the end of the descent you fancy a touch of action, just ask the pilot for some Wing Overs or a spiral. Included. No supplement, no surprises.

What the experience feels like

Families: The laminar air of the early morning eliminates any jolting. Children from age 5 fly comfortably, seated in the harness with the pilot in command. This is the aerial introduction that holds no fear.

Couples: A shared sunrise from 1,000 metres above the Pre-Pyrenees. No noise, no rush, with the option of ending the flight with aerobatics if the morning calls for excitement.

FAQs

Why is the morning flight shorter than the other options?

Because it takes place between 8:00 and 9:30 am, before the sun generates thermal currents. Without thermals there is no ascending lift: the paraglider descends directly and steadily for 5 to 15 minutes, prioritising complete calm over duration.

From what age can children fly on the morning flight?

From age 5 with an accompanying adult. The laminar air of the early morning is the most stable scenario of the day. Maximum passenger weight is 130 kg. This morning format does not accommodate adapted seating for reduced mobility.

What equipment does RocRoi provide and what should I bring?

RocRoi provides all certified equipment: helmet, harness with integrated airbag and emergency parachute. Please bring enclosed footwear, long trousers, sunglasses and a zip-up jacket, as early mornings are cool on the Montsec.

Are aerobatics included in the price?

Yes. The basic aerobatic manoeuvres — Wing Overs, spirals and spins — are included at no extra charge. The pilot performs them at the end of the descent only if the passenger requests them.

How do we get to the take-off area?

From the Àger base, the team transfers participants by minibus or official 4x4 to one of the five Montsec take-off points. Transport is included in the price.
