COMBO Rafting + Hydrospeed on the Gállego River: Double Descent at the Mallos de Riglos

View photos

The Gállego river has two faces in this pack. In the morning, you live it from above: rafting carries you from Carcavilla to Murillo de Gállego, the guide sets the pace, the team paddles together and the Mallos de Riglos tower overhead like walls from another world. In the afternoon, the river has no intermediaries: in the hydrospeed your body is submerged, the board is your only point of contact and you navigate the rapids using your fins. The same water — a completely different experience.

  • Morning on a guided raft — afternoon in free-body mode: the same river, two very different experiences
  • Break between activities with free time to eat and enjoy the Mallos de Riglos
  • From 15 years old — full technical gear for both activities included

Itinerary

The COMBO Rafting + Hydrospeed experience on the Gállego River

The middle stretch of the Gállego river, beneath the Mallos de Riglos, is one of the most iconic whitewater settings in the Aragonese Pyrenees. This pack invites you to experience it in both possible ways — on the same day.

Morning — Rafting: the river from above, as a team

The day starts at the base with the rafting gear: 5mm wetsuit, helmet, life jacket and neoprene booties. The guide delivers the briefing — paddling technique, position on the raft, safety protocols — and transport to the starting point of the descent is included. El Embudo and the ‘S’ concentrate the highest intensity of the stretch and mark the moment when the group becomes a team. The guide steers the navigation and opens windows onto the surroundings: the canyon geology, the riverside wildlife, the history of the Kingdom of the Mallos. Two hours of actual descent, then back to the base.

Midday — Free break among the Mallos

Between activities, free time to eat and enjoy the surroundings. The Mallos de Riglos — conglomerate spires of up to 300 metres above the village — offer one of the most breathtaking backdrops in Aragon.

Around 16:00 — Hydrospeed: the same river, without intermediaries

In the afternoon, the approach changes completely. The RocRoi team equips you with a specific wetsuit of up to 7mm with knee and shin protection, helmet, life jacket, fins and the hydrospeed board. In hydrospeed, 70% of your body is in permanent contact with the current and it is you — not a vessel — who reads the rapids and steers the board using your body weight and fin thrust. The same Gállego rapids you ran on the raft in the morning reveal themselves as entirely different territory when you read them from inside the water.

Note: For logistical reasons, the order of activities may vary. The team will inform you in advance.

What the experience feels like

Groups of friends: the ultimate plan for a day of pure adventure. Rafting opens the day with shared adrenaline; hydrospeed closes it with an intensity level you take home. The Mallos in the middle, for those who need to catch their breath.

Couples: two experiences of the same river, two ways to enjoy it together.

Young adventurers (from 15 years old): the ideal pack for a first full day of whitewater. Rafting builds technique and confidence; hydrospeed takes that confidence one step further.

What to bring

Practical details – COMBO Rafting + Hydrospeed Murillo de Gállego

The pack is designed for those who want to experience the Gállego to the fullest in a single day. The natural progression — from guided raft to solo board — lets you build confidence throughout the day before tackling the more technical activity.

  • Minimum age: 15 years for both activities.
  • Level: Rafting grade III-IV (medium); Hydrospeed Level 3 (Adventure, sustained physical effort). Overall pack level: Level 3 — Adventure.
  • Planned schedule: 10:00 rafting / 16:00 hydrospeed. For logistical reasons the order may change; RocRoi will inform you in advance.
  • Total duration of the day: approximately 8–9 hours (including both activities, transfers and midday break).
  • Physical condition: it is essential to be a confident swimmer. Hydrospeed requires a degree of leg strength for sustained finning.
  • Limitations: not suitable for pregnant women or people with heart conditions, back problems or other serious medical conditions. Always inform the guide of any allergies, phobias or physical limitations before each activity.
  • Mindset: a desire to paddle as a team in the morning and to read the river one-to-one in the afternoon.

Who can perform this activity

FAQs

Is this pack suitable for someone with no prior whitewater experience?

Medium-level rafting is accessible from the very first paddle stroke — no prior experience needed. Hydrospeed is Level 3 and requires confidence in the water and willingness to put in physical effort, but the guide adapts the pace to the group. The pack sequence (rafting first, hydrospeed second) is the ideal progression: you arrive at the board already familiar with the river and with the confidence gained on the raft.

Can I do the pack if I only want one of the two activities?

The pack is designed as a full day and its price reflects the combination. If you prefer a single activity, both rafting and hydrospeed are available separately on our website. The pack, however, is the option for those who want the full day and both Gállego experiences.

What is the difference between rafting and hydrospeed on the same river?

In rafting you ride a raft that the guide steers as a team: the river passes beneath you, the group paddles in coordination and you enjoy the Mallos canyon from above. In hydrospeed, 70% of your body is submerged and you are the one steering the board with your body weight and fins — there is no vessel between you and the water. Same river, two completely different relationships with the current.

Can the order of activities change?

Yes. The planned order is rafting at 10:00 and hydrospeed at 16:00, but for group organisation and river logistics reasons, the order may be reversed. If so, RocRoi will let you know in advance so you can plan your day without surprises.

What do I do between the two activities?

The midday free time is yours. The Mallos de Riglos are just a few minutes from the base: the village of Riglos and its viewpoints offer a unique perspective of those 300-metre walls you have just seen from the river. Bring food or visit one of the village bars — the break is part of the experience.

Does the Gállego have enough water in summer for both activities?

Yes. The Gállego is regulated by the La Peña dam, which guarantees regular water releases throughout the season. This sets it apart from other Pyrenean rivers and allows both activities to be offered with a functional and safe flow from March to October.
