Itinerary

This autumn trek in the Alt Pirineu Natural Park is an invitation to immerse yourself in the transformative beauty of nature while learning about the natural processes that define this magical time of year. As the days get cooler and the daylight hours decrease, the Pyrenean landscapes become a mosaic of vibrant colours, with hues ranging from golds and oranges to deep reds. This trek will not only allow you to enjoy these landscapes, but will also give you the opportunity to capture their beauty with your camera and understand the natural phenomena that make them possible. Our route will take us through trails surrounded by deciduous forests, where the trees are preparing for winter with an explosion of colours that mark the change of season. At every step, you will have the opportunity to stop and photograph nature at its best, with the leaves of birch, oak and cherry trees covering the ground like a carpet of colours. Your guide, an expert on the park's flora and fauna, will explain how and why this change in leaf colour occurs, a process known as senescence, in which trees reabsorb chlorophyll to conserve nutrients before dropping their leaves. As we move deeper into the park, we will also see how the mountain scenery is reflected in the alpine lakes, creating postcard images that will delight photographers. The trek takes us over plateaus and through valleys, offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and meadows fading into the warm tones of autumn. These views are not only a treat for the eyes, but also an opportunity to capture the grandeur of the Pyrenees in all its majesty. Along the way, we will also learn about the ecological processes that are triggered at this time of year. The guide will tell us about how the park's animals, such as marmots and bonesbills, prepare for winter, building up food reserves or looking for safe shelters. We will discover how plants adapted to the high mountains begin to enter a state of dormancy, reducing their vital functions to resist the harsh winter conditions ahead. This trek is an immersive experience that combines contemplation and photography of spectacular landscapes with a deeper understanding of the natural cycles that shape the Alt Pirineu Natural Park. You will feel part of this dynamic ecosystem as you learn how autumn, far from being just a transitional season, is a key period in nature's preparation for winter. At the end of the day, you will not only take away memorable images, but also a new appreciation for the natural processes that make the Pyrenees such a special place during autumn.
