Itinerary

The Paddle Surf Cabriel River experience

Paddleboarding in the Hoces del Cabriel takes place on the middle reaches of the river, where the water calms and turns transparent. The guided route is two hours on stable boards, along a stretch flanked by riverside woodland and the geological formations of the Hoces. No swell. No crowded sea. River.

The activity starts at the Albergue Hoces del Cabriel in Venta del Moro. The team hands over board, paddle, wetsuit if needed and buoyancy aid. The qualified guide spends the first minutes on body position: how to kneel to start, how to stand up and how to correct your balance if you wobble. It is easier than it sounds.

The route moves through calm, crystal-clear water. The sensation is of floating: the board glides and the water lets you see every stone on the riverbed as if through glass. The group follows the qualified guide’s pace — they know every corner of the stretch. There are stops for a swim if the group asks, moments of silence to listen to the river, and just enough effort to stay upright.

The finale comes when the group stops at a wide, open section and everyone can jump in. You have paddled two hours on one of the three cleanest, best-preserved rivers in Europe. The mental reset happens by itself.

Who can perform this activity

FAQs

Is it hard to keep your balance on the board?

No. The boards are wide and stable, designed for beginners. The qualified guide spends the first minutes on body position and basic technique: how to kneel to start and how to stand up. Most people find their confidence within the first 100 metres.

Will I get very wet?

A tumble is likely, especially when standing up for the first time. But the water on the middle reaches of the Cabriel is clear and clean, so any fall feels more like a voluntary swim than a scare.

From what age can teenagers take part?

From age 14 with an adult companion. It is a beginner route on calm water, ideal for a first experience of stand-up paddle without the challenges of SUP on open sea.

What is the difference from paddleboarding at sea?

River SUP is done on calm water with no swell or undertow. The board moves at your pace and the feeling of stability is greater. The Cabriel is also crystal clear — you can see the riverbed, which you cannot do at sea.

What equipment is included and what do I need to bring?

RocRoi provides a SUP board, paddle, buoyancy aid and wetsuit if needed. You need to bring swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes for afterwards and footwear that can get wet (flip-flops not permitted).
