View photos
The first abseil is daunting. Here, that is the whole point. Before you touch the water, you already know how to do it. You practise on dry ground, without pressure. When the real moment comes, your body responds.
The Furco is not just an easy canyon. It is where you move from doubt to confidence. You come out having learned — not just having tried.
- Beginner level: the ideal first canyon, suitable from age 12 with no prior experience
- 2h30 in the water, 4 to 6 abseils with prior instruction
- Warm pools: warmer water than most Pyrenean canyons

What the experience feels like
Families: the Furco answers the first question parents ask — can my children actually do this? — with the dry-ground briefing before anyone enters the water. From age 12, progressive abseils that children handle on their own terms from the second descent, and warm pools where the group breathes between abseils. The beginner canyon that turns doubt into wanting to come back.
Couples: two and a half hours inside a gorge in the Valle del Ara, learning the same technique at the same time with no one else watching the first abseil. The Furco is the canyoning that needs no prior preparation and leaves you wanting the next level.
Groups of friends: the dry-ground briefing levels the group from the start: everyone learns the technique together, everyone does the same abseils. The Furco turns a provisional expert out of anyone who has never held a rope, and that generates exactly the kind of conversation the group has for weeks.

FAQs
Is the Furco Canyon suitable for complete beginners?
Absolutely yes. It is the beginner canyon par excellence in the Aragonese Pyrenees. Its challenges are progressive and the instructor carries out a dry-ground briefing before entering the water: body position, how to use the descender and the stop signal with the rope in hand. By the time the first real abseil arrives, the technique is already familiar.
How many abseils does the Furco Canyon have and how high are they?
Between four and six descents depending on conditions on the day. The first are short — two to five metres — to consolidate the technique. The later ones are somewhat higher, but none exceeds twelve metres. The instructor adjusts the pace and does not move to the next abseil until the group has completed the previous one on their own terms.
What is the difference between the Furco Canyon and the Forcos Canyon, both beginner level near Ordesa?
The Furco is shorter: 3h30 total, 2h30 in the water, four to six abseils, forest surroundings near Broto. The Forcos takes 5h total, 3h30 in the water, seven to nine abseils and is known for its spectacular turquoise pools. The Furco is the ideal first canyon for those who want a progressive introduction; the Forcos is the most complete beginner descent in the area for those who want more time in the water.
Are the pools in the Furco cold?
They are among the warmest in the Ordesa area. The Furco faces a direction that receives more sun hours than most surrounding canyons, and the pools build up warmth through the morning. The included full wetsuit guarantees thermal comfort in any conditions.
Can I do the Furco Canyon if I am scared of heights?
Mild or moderate fear of heights is not an obstacle. The instructor gauges each participant’s confidence level during the dry-ground briefing and tailors the approach to the first real abseil accordingly. Most people who arrive with doubts leave wanting to come back. Severe vertigo is a contraindication: contact RocRoi before booking if you have any doubts.
