It is a natural cavity formed in the Cretaceous limestone of the Torrent del Coll de Fumanya, passable as part of the canyon descent. What are hanging potholes?
They are perfectly circular cavities drilled into the rock wall by boulders trapped and spun by the river current over thousands of years. The erosion creates these spherical forms, which are left suspended in the wall when the watercourse drops to a lower level. In the Forat Negre they appear during the abseils, at mid-height, as geological formations accessible only from inside the canyon.
