What the experience feels like
Families: the jumps are optional and the guide is always there for anyone who prefers the alternative. The turquoise pools of the Canaletes are the setting that children from age 12 remember as their first real canyon. No Pyrenean cold, Mediterranean warmth and colour in the water.
Couples: canyoning without pressure or competition. The Canaletes lets you decide what to do at each obstacle without anyone waiting or judging. A tailor-made descent in southern Catalonia, far from the crowded Pyrenean circuits.
Groups of friends: the plan for the group that has never done canyoning and does not want to start with something intimidating. The optional jumps mean the bold half and the cautious half of the group enjoy the same watercourse together. The included photo report tells the whole story.

FAQs
Are the jumps in the Canaletes canyon compulsory?
No. In the Canaletes every single jump is optional. For each one there is an alternative descent: coming down on a rope assisted by the guide, walking along the bank, or using an easier pool access. The aim is for every participant to decide their own adventure level at every moment, with no pressure and the full support of the qualified guide.
What is the recommended minimum age for children?
From 12 years old with a responsible adult. The Canaletes is the quintessential family canyon of southern Catalonia: its turquoise pools, natural slides and Mediterranean water temperature make it the ideal setting for younger participants to discover canyoning safely and enjoyably.
When is the best time to do the Canaletes canyon?
The season runs from May to October. June and September are the ideal months: the flow is perfect, the water temperature is pleasant and the Els Ports Natural Park is at its finest. In July and August the Mediterranean heat makes the water especially inviting. In May it can be slightly cool but the wetsuit more than compensates.
Why is the Canaletes water so turquoise?
The distinctive colour comes from the combination of the conglomerate rock of the Els Ports Natural Park — made up of cemented rounded pebbles — and the clarity of the water in the summer months. Mediterranean light falling on shallow pools with a pale bed produces that turquoise colour that sets the Canaletes apart from the darker-water Pyrenean canyons.
How does the Canaletes differ from the Estarón Superior canyon in Llavorsí?
The Canaletes is the beginner canyon of southern Catalonia: warmer Mediterranean water, Els Ports conglomerate, all obstacles optional and a family-friendly atmosphere. The Estarón Superior is the beginner-to-intermediate canyon of the Catalan Pyrenees: colder slate water, abseils of up to 20 metres and an alpine setting in the High Pyrenees. Same accessibility level, opposite climates and geology.
