Motorboat Trip through the Menorca Marine Reserve — Cala Pregonda and Snorkelling

View photos

The north of Menorca is wild and red. We set off by motorboat from Fornells, cross Cap de Cavalleria and anchor at Cala Pregonda — one of the island's beaches of reddish sediment, inside the North Marine Reserve.

Three hours without paddling, with a skipper, snorkelling equipment and cold drinks on board. The comfortable way to see what the Camí de Cavalls only shows on foot.

Itinerary

The experience — Motorboat to Cala Pregonda and the Marine Reserve

Most visitors crowd the southern beaches of Menorca and miss the north entirely. Which is a shame, because the north is another world: wild, red, with the dark rock cliffs typical of the Tramuntana wind coast. This motorboat trip covers three hours of that untamed coastline without a single paddle stroke.

The activity starts at the activity centre in Fornells harbour. The skipper delivers the briefing, hands out buoyancy aids and sets off northwards. The motorboat crosses the North Marine Reserve with its crystal-clear water and Tramuntana rock walls.

The first landmark is Cap de Cavalleria, the northernmost tip of the island. Then, anchoring at Cala Pregonda — one of Menorca’s most photographed beaches for its reddish sediment and turquoise water. The boat stays nearby so the group can swim and snorkel with the included equipment. Cold drinks on board throughout.

At the end, back to Fornells. The feeling is of having explored a Menorca that few people see: the Camí de Cavalls coastline, but from the water, in three hours and without queues.
