The Ésera has two rhythms: the fast descent and the slow journey. This day lives in both. Twenty-two kilometres is enough for the group to find its cadence, for the river to change character three times, for the riverside villages — Campo, Santaliestra, Besians — to mark the milestones of a day that will feel like a journey, not an activity.
Full technical equipment, certified multilingual guide, transport, and most importantly: a real riverside picnic with artisan cheese, regional cured meats and village bread.
- Level 2: Beginner — from age 8 with a companion
- 22 km route · 6h real time on the river — 7h total duration
- Picnic included with typical Aragonese Pyrenean produce on the riverbank

What the experience feels like
Families: the long day lets parents and children find a shared rhythm. The picnic is the sharpest memory. Six hours on the river is enough to feel that you have travelled somewhere, not just done an activity.
Groups of friends: twenty-two kilometres build a group narrative. The first rapids create tension, the picnic creates cohesion, the final stretch celebrates what you have done together.
Couples: a day without rush, where the effort is shared and the landscape allows conversation. Campo, Santaliestra, Besians mark three distinct moments of the same river.

FAQs
Why is 22 kilometres the right distance?
Twenty-two kilometres is the natural run of the Ésera from Campo down to the confluence with the lower valley. It is enough for the group to feel a real journey, not just an activity. The river changes character three times: the opening rapids in the gorge, the wider stretch at the picnic stop, and the contemplative final section towards Besians.
What exactly does the picnic include?
Artisan bread, Benasque cheese, regional cured meats (ham, chorizo), water and fruit. No supermarket sandwiches. You eat where only those who descend the river get to eat.
Is it too tiring for families with 8-year-olds?
Not tiring — long. The difference is that the pace is yours, not the river’s. Six hours on the water becomes manageable when the group finds its rhythm, when there is a proper pause for the picnic and when every member knows their role. Children of 8 with some prior experience enjoy it enormously.
What happens if it rains?
The activity runs regardless. The Ésera flows whether it rains or not. The equipment — full wetsuit and cagoule — handles mountain cold and meltwater. Rain in the Pyrenees is part of the journey, not an obstacle.
Do I need prior rafting experience for the full day?
Not essential, but having done at least one beginner rafting session is recommended. The day lasts 6 real hours on the river and sustained endurance is the main challenge, not technique. The guide adapts the pace to the group.
