Couples: the Las Pirámides passage demands that you paddle together or you do not get through. An hour inside the Ésera limestone gorge that tests coordination and leaves an image that photographs do not quite capture.

Level 3 — Adventure: descent with class III–IV rapids requiring team coordination and sustained physical effort. Prior whitewater experience is recommended.

- Physical condition: good fitness. Not suitable for pregnant women or people with heart conditions or serious medical issues.

Is prior rafting experience required?
Not essential, but recommended. The class III–IV rapids have real technical intensity and the guide assesses on the spot whether the group is ready. If this is your first time on a river, start with our beginner stretch and move up a level next time.
What exactly are the Las Pirámides of the Ésera?
‘Las Pirámides’ is the popular name for the tightest section of the Ésera river, characterised by large limestone rock formations and a natural gorge that concentrates the greatest technical difficulty of the descent. It is the defining feature of this route.
Will the water be very cold?
The Ésera runs with meltwater from the Maladeta Massif — yes, it is cold. That is why the equipment includes a full wetsuit, cagoule and neoprene boots. With that kit, the temperature is not a real issue during the activity.
What happens if someone falls into the water?
The pre-activity briefing covers exactly this: rescue position in the current, how to use the buoyancy aid and what to do if you become separated from the raft. The guides are trained and equipped to act within seconds. Going into the water in a class III river is not an accident — it is a managed possibility.
Can I sign up at 17?
Yes, with an adult present for the entire activity. The minimum age with an adult companion is 17; without a companion, 18. If you have any doubts about whether your group meets the requirements, contact us before booking.
