What the experience feels like
Couples: two worlds in one day — the outdoor verticality on dolomitic limestone and the darkness of the stalactite cave. The Venes de Rojalons is the adventure plan no other via ferrata can offer. The contrast of stepping out of the cave into Mediterranean light is the moment couples do not forget.
Groups of friends: the via ferrata the group will mention the next time someone says “I’ve got an idea”. K3-K4 ferrata plus rigged cave plus stalactites plus head-torch light. The kind of experience that cannot be summed up in two words and forces you to show the photos.

Practical details – Speleo-Ferrata, Prades Mountains, Tarragona
The underground section is optional for anyone with claustrophobia — an outdoor alternative exists. No caving experience is required: the entire cave is rigged as a via ferrata with iron rungs, cables and approved anchor points.
- Minimum age: 16 years with a responsible adult (minimum height 145 cm) / 18 years without an accompanying adult.
- Level: Challenge — predominantly K3 with an initial K4 overhang (Hüsler scale).
- Total duration: 4 hours.
- Active time on route: 3 hours.
- Physical condition: good. Sustained physical effort on vertical rock.
- Limitations: not suitable for pregnant women. Not suitable for people with serious heart conditions, back problems or vertigo. The cave section may be skipped in case of claustrophobia. Heavy rain on wet limestone may require rescheduling the activity.
- Mindset: a taste for verticality, tolerance for temporary darkness and a drive to exit the mountain through the other side. The Prades Mountains are special.

FAQs
Do I need caving experience for the cave section?
No. The underground section of the Venes de Rojalons is fully rigged with the same safety systems as the outdoor via ferrata: iron rungs, cables and approved anchor points. It is a via ferrata that passes through the inside of a cave, not technical caving. The guide manages progression and lighting is included. If you suffer from claustrophobia, there is an outdoor variant that bypasses the underground section.
How does this via ferrata compare to the Baumes Corcades K3-K4 in Centelles?
The Baumes Corcades is an outdoor via ferrata with a 69-metre Nepalese bridge as its defining feature, in Osona. The Venes de Rojalons include an underground section with stalactites rigged as a via ferrata, in the Prades Mountains. Both are K3-K4 level, but the suspended bridge in Centelles and the cave in Rojalons are completely different sensory experiences.
What exactly are the stalactites in the cave?
Stalactites are calcium carbonate formations that grow downward from cave ceilings as mineral-rich water drips and evaporates over thousands of years. At the Venes de Rojalons they are active — still growing — and line the inside of the cavity with shapes typical of the dolomitic limestone of the Prades Mountains. Under head-torch light they create a visual contrast with the exterior of the route that no conventional via ferrata can offer.
What happens if it rains on the day of the activity?
Wet dolomitic limestone dramatically reduces grip on the outdoor sections of the route. If the weather forecast indicates significant rain, the RocRoi team assesses technical safety and, if necessary, reschedules the activity. Your safety comes first. In the event of rescheduling due to weather, a date change or full refund is offered.
Can teenagers take part?
A minimum age of 16 and a height of over 145 cm is recommended. It is an excellent activity for teenagers with no fear of heights who are looking for an unusual physical and psychological challenge. Continuous supervision by a qualified guide ensures that safety protocols are followed strictly at all times, both outdoors and in the underground section.
