The experience — Rock, cable and Els Ports beneath your feet

A K3-grade via ferrata in the Els Ports Natural Park. Not a walk, not a hike: vertical progression on live rock, with a safety cable and full technical equipment from the very start. The kind of activity that, once done, divides time into before and after.

The starting point is the Penyaflor via ferrata car park in Alfara de Carles. From there, a 20-minute walk to the start of the route. An approach section that the guide team uses to go over the equipment, explain the basic technique of progression and answer any questions. A practical briefing: how to move with three points of contact, how to manage the gear, what to expect as the gradient increases. The difference between climbing with nerves and climbing with confidence is made in that time before you start.

Then the climbing begins. An hour and a half of real ascent on a K3 via ferrata with Els Ports Natural Park unfolding at every step. The effort is moderate and sustained: the kind that makes reaching the top taste different. But K3 does not lie — there are moments where the body genuinely has to work, and that is part of the deal.

Suitable from age 10 with an accompanying adult and from age 18 unaccompanied.

Can I do it if I have vertigo?

We do not recommend it for people with severe vertigo. Via ferrata progression involves considerable heights and sustained exposure. If you have mild vertigo or are unsure, we recommend contacting us before booking — the guide team can advise you better based on your specific situation.

Can I do the Penyaflor via ferrata without a guide?

Yes. The operating company also offers harness and helmet hire for those who prefer to do the route independently. If you opt for the guided activity, the qualified guide, full technical equipment and photo report are all included in the price.

Total duration is 2 h 15 min, including a 20-minute approach walk from the car park to the start of the route and 1 h 30 min of actual climbing. The circular descent is equipped and follows the rear side of the via ferrata.
