Valle del Jerte: Los Papuos Ravine in Extremadura

The ‘Los Papuos’ ravine runs through an impressive karst canyon within the Garganta de los Infiernos Nature Reserve. The route begins with a 45-minute descent on foot along the Barranco del Infierno equipped path until you reach the riverbed.

Once there, you will start the aquatic descent through the area of La Caldera, with vertical walls that force you to rappel using anchors and ropes. Then you will enter the Foz del Silencio, following the course of the river between large boulders.

Further on you will find the Devil’s Rapids, a class III section where you will descend between slippery rocks. The descent ends after a final 30-metre abseil at the Cascada Infierno waterfall. The whole route is perfectly equipped and signposted. It is a 5-6 hour descent with a medium-high degree of difficulty that will allow us to enjoy this impressive natural enclave in Extremadura.
