Sea or lake paddleboarding teaches balance. Whitewater paddleboarding teaches how to keep it when the river refuses to cooperate. The Gállego rapids at the Murillo stretch — class II-III beneath the conglomerate walls of the Mallos de Riglos — are the laboratory where paddle technique and current-reading become indispensable.
- Sustained physical effort, class II-III rapids, from 16 years
- Licensed instructor, whitewater-specific SUP board, wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid, transport and showers included
- Setting: Gállego river with griffon vultures and the Mallos de Riglos colony as backdrop
📍 Meeting point: Base UR Pirineos I RocRoi: A-132, Km 38, 22808 Murillo de Gállego, Zaragoza, Spain – View on map

What the experience feels like
Groups of friends: the rapid tests technique and ego in equal measure. Who holds balance longest, who reads the current best. Whitewater SUP turns every session into a technical duel with the Gállego as referee.
Couples: an activity that demands individual concentration but is shared. Whitewater SUP at the Mallos de Riglos is the plan that not everyone who does paddleboarding actually has on their list.

FAQs
What minimum technical requirements are needed for this activity?
Command of the forward stroke and balance in moving water are essential. Participants must be able to perform a basic eddy entry and support stroke. If you have only practised flat-water SUP with no experience in current, the beginner SUP on the Gállego is the recommended starting point.
How does whitewater SUP differ from sea or lake SUP?
At sea or on a lake the challenge is balance and endurance. In whitewater, the river adds current, obstacles and direction changes that demand technical reactions in fractions of a second. The board is different — shorter and more stable — and the paddling technique changes completely. It is a specific discipline with nothing in common with recreational SUP.
Do I need prior SUP experience to join this activity?
Yes. This activity is Adventure level and requires prior SUP experience. It is not suitable for beginners. If it is your first time on a paddleboard, check out the beginner SUP on the Gállego river, designed for those starting from scratch.
How many times will I fall in during the session?
It depends on your prior technical level. Falling in is part of the learning process and the safety equipment — 5 mm wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid — ensures every fall is safe. The board’s safety leash prevents it from drifting away in the current.
Are transport and showers included?
Yes. Transport from the UR Pirineos I RocRoi base to the put-in and return are included in the price. The base’s changing rooms and showers are available at the end of the session.
