Who can perform this activity
FAQs
Is it difficult to handle a kayak with no experience?
Not at all. The kayaks at the Congost de Mont-Rebei are designed for maximum stability on calm water. At gear collection the team covers the basics: how to hold the paddle, how to paddle in coordination and how to manoeuvre. Most groups have the hang of it in under ten minutes.
Is the activity guided or self-hire?
It is self-hire. You collect the kayak, paddles, buoyancy aids and basic instructions at the Corçà dock, and paddle at your own pace for approximately 4 hours. There is no accompanying guide: the freedom to explore the gorge without timetables or groups is precisely what makes this experience different.
Is kayaking in Mont-Rebei better than hiking?
The Camí de Mont-Rebei requires a compulsory advance booking in peak season and can become very crowded on weekends. Kayaking needs no hiking permit, lets you travel the gorge at water level — the most impressive perspective — and the Canelles reservoir gives you space to spread out. The same visual experience, without queuing and from below.
What wildlife can you see from the kayak in the Congost de Mont-Rebei?
The gorge is a designated SPA (Special Protection Area for Birds). Griffon vultures soaring over the cliffs are a common sight. The bearded vulture — an endangered species and the last natural population in Western Europe — can be spotted particularly in the early morning hours. Iberian wild goats frequently appear on the limestone ledges.
How do you get to the Corçà boat dock?
The Corçà dock is 10 km from Àger along an unpaved track suitable for standard cars. Arriving before 9h is recommended on weekends and in August as parking is limited. From Barcelona it is approximately 2h 30min (200 km via the C-14). From Lleida city, 1h 15min.
