The Upper Ebro Rafting experience

The Montesclaros – Aldea del Ebro stretch is one of the most iconic rafting descents in Cantabria. Nine kilometres of Grade III: real excitement with no prior experience needed, accessible from age six with a companion. And the detail that sets this river apart from any other in northern Spain: flow regulated by the Ebro reservoir and water that can reach twenty-two degrees in the height of summer.

The activity starts at the activity centre in Arroyo. The licensed instructor hands out the equipment — wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet, neoprene shoes and paddle — and delivers a brief briefing on paddling and raft coordination. There is no need to fight the river here. You just need to learn to paddle together.

The descent runs along the Ebro between Montesclaros and Aldea del Ebro. The rapids come in sequence, mixing technical sections with more straightforward stretches: El Molino, El Gol, El Ascensor, La Lupera, Las Vías, El Balneario, El Tren and the S. And between rapids, the river’s large pools — calm stretches perfect for swimming and cooling off before the next section.

And at the end: picnic and digital photo report. The raft lands, the group changes at the base and sits down to eat by the river — the rafting day that many families in northern Spain are looking for and the Upper Ebro delivers with the reliability of regulated flow.
