La Seu d’Urgell is the capital of the Alt Urgell, in the Catalan Pyrenees. It sits about 10 km from the Andorran border and roughly three hours from Barcelona. The Segre river runs through the town, and right beside it is the Parc del Segre, the whitewater canal built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics canoeing events. Rafting on the Segre River
Rafting is the star activity in La Seu d’Urgell. You descend the Segre by raft, combining the Olympic canal with natural river stretches. A guide steers the run and tells you what to do at each rapid, so no prior experience is needed. It’s physical but accessible, and works well for families with children, couples looking for something different, and groups of friends after an adrenaline hit. All you need is to be able to swim and follow the instructions.
Kayak rental
If you prefer to go at your own pace, you can rent a kayak and explore the calmer stretches of the river. It’s a more relaxed option than rafting, suited to those who already have some water confidence or want to practise without a guide on board. It also works as a complement within a larger group: some can raft while others kayak, depending on what each person feels like.
What to do near La Seu d’Urgell in winter
Once snow arrives, the action shifts from river to mountain. The main resort is Grandvalira, in Andorra, around 35-40 minutes by car from La Seu. From there, we run two very different activities.
Snowmobile tour and après-ski at Grau Roig
The snowmobile route leaves from the Grau Roig sector and lasts about an hour. It’s a way to experience the mountain in winter without needing to ski, and fits perfectly as an après-ski activity or a plan for a day when you don’t want to spend the whole time on the slopes. You go with a helmet, warm clothing and a guide who leads the route.
Grandvalira premium ski pass
If skiing is your thing, the premium ski pass gives you access to the Grandvalira domain, one of the largest in the Pyrenees. It’s the option for those who come to ski seriously and prefer to sort out access in advance rather than queuing at the ticket office.

Our centres: La Seu d’Urgell and Andorra-Grandvalira
We operate from two bases. The La Seu d’Urgell centre is the starting point for all water activities on the Segre. The Andorra-Grandvalira centre is where the snow adventures begin. If you’re staying for a few days, you can easily combine both without long transfers.
Ideas depending on who you’re travelling with
- With children: rafting on the gentler stretches and the snowmobile tour both work well as no experience is required. Check the minimum age before booking.
- As a couple: a morning kayak session in summer, or snowmobiles in winter, make for a perfect weekend plan.
