Interview with Patricio: Exploring the Passion for the Outdoors and Mushing

From Ushuaia, Argentina, to Andorra, Patricio has built a life around nature and sport. With almost five years in Andorra, Patricio currently works at RocRoi as a musher and head of the husky pack, being responsible for their maintenance, breeding and training.

His connection with dogs and his passion for the outdoors have led him to live intense experiences in the world of mushing.

1. Discovering the Passion for Outdoor Sports

Could you explain how you got into the world of the outdoors?

Patricio: Since I was little, my life has been linked to nature. My homeland, like Andorra, is surrounded by mountains and natural landscapes that invite you to explore.

This environment was fundamental for me to become interested in outdoor activities and sports from an early age, especially those related to dogs.

2. Canicross: A Special Connection with Dogs

What is your favorite adventure sport and why?

Patricio: My favourite adventure sport is canicross, a sport that combines humans and dogs as a team.

It consists of running or walking together in the mountains, forming a special bond that is key to mushing, which is what I do.

It is an incredible experience to be able to share these moments with them, while strengthening the connection between the two.

3. Memorable Moments in Mushing

Could you share your best memory or experience practising this sport?

Patricio: I think my best memories are the ones I live with them every day. Spending quality time, watching them grow and discovering their personalities is something special.

I also remember a very nice moment from three years ago, when we were Andorran champions in canicross with Chalten, a dog who is part of the pack and lives with me. Competing with him was an unforgettable experience.

4. Current Challenges in the World of Outdoor and Mushing

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the outdoor sector today?

Patricio: Unpredictable weather changes are one of the biggest challenges, as they force you to be prepared for any situation. Also, I feel that the sport is losing a bit of the essence of teamwork between human and dog, something that I consider fundamental.

This sport is a lifestyle that benefits both the dog and the person, promoting positive development for both.

5. Advice for New Adventurers

What advice would you give to someone who has never practiced this adventure sport?

Patricio: My advice is to encourage them to try it and get to know the world of sled dogs. Although they are strong and resistant, these dogs create a special bond with whoever trains them.

With patience, wonderful experiences and memories can be achieved, both for the animal and the person.

6. Upcoming Adventures in RocRoi

What activity on the RocRoi platform would you like to do that you haven’t tried yet?

Patricio: I would love to try rafting. Although I am not a big fan of water sports, it is an activity that attracts my attention and a world that I would definitely like to explore.
