Fredy Bru, coordinator of the RocRoi sea vertical in Vilanova i la Geltrú, is an outdoor enthusiast with vast experience in adventure sports, both at sea and in the mountains.
In this interview, Fredy shares his experiences, from sailing to electric mountain biking, and reflects on the challenges and opportunities of the sector.
1. Beginnings in the outdoor world
Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into the outdoor world.
Fredy: My experiences in the outdoors have two aspects. On the one hand, I started sailing in a dinghy from a very young age, and on the other hand, I started in the low and medium mountains, going on excursions, around the age of 30.
In addition, three years ago I started with electric mountain biking (eMTB), which has been a new and exciting adventure for me.
2. Favorite adventure sports
What is your favorite adventure sport and why?
Fredy: I combine sailing and windsurfing with electric biking. I love the freedom that both sports give me, whether sailing the sea or hiking along mountain trails.
3. Memorable experiences in sport
Could you share your best memory or experience practicing this sport?
Fredy: One of my best memories was during a competition/stage crossing on a Hobie Cat 16 catamaran, from Amposta to Roses. I especially remember the section between the Medes Islands and the approach to l’Escala. Sailing in a zigzag with tailwinds, very close to the cliffs, was both a sporting and aesthetic experience that will remain forever etched in my memory.
4. Challenges in the outdoor sector
What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the outdoor sector today?
Fredy: I think one of the biggest challenges is offering activities in a way that they can be easily acquired and quickly enjoyed, without sacrificing quality or safety.
It is essential to have the best facilities, updated and modern equipment, and to offer qualified training and guides.
In addition, clients increasingly value learning basic techniques, as well as knowledge of the environment and weather conditions.
5. Advice for adventure sports beginners
What advice would you give to someone who has never tried this adventure sport?
Fredy: Without a doubt, I would recommend that they go to a specialized center where they can enjoy a service with all the guarantees.
It is important that they research the product well on the Internet and ask the specialists to make sure that they will have a safe and pleasant experience.
6. New adventures to discover with RocRoi
What activity on the RocRoi platform would you like to do that you have not yet tried?
Fredy: I would like to try some activity in the snow, such as a snowshoe excursion or something similar. It is a pending subject for me.
The interview with Fredy Bru shows us how the passion for the outdoors can encompass both the sea and the mountains, combining adventure, technique and enjoyment of the natural environment.
His reflections on the challenges of the sector invite us to rethink how to make outdoor activities more accessible and safe, without losing the essence of adventure.
At RocRoi, Fredy continues to transmit his passion for water sports and hopes to continue adding new experiences in the mountains and snow.
