Open kayak is the freedom to paddle where you decide, inside a channel that does not negotiate. The inflatable kayak is stable and manoeuvrable. The Ésera in its glacial channel is crystal-clear water that changes in size and mood three times as you descend. Each paddler has their own line, but the certified multilingual guide accompanies at all times.
It is not group rafting. Nor is it solo kayaking without a safety net. It is the transition between experiencing the river as spectacle and living it as decision.
- Beginner level, from age 14 with a companion
- 2h real time on the river — 3h total duration
- Individual: your kayak, your paddle, your call. Guide accompanies throughout

What the experience feels like
Families: teenagers from age 14 learn autonomy while parents and older siblings paddle alongside. On the way home everyone has their own version of the river to tell.
Groups of friends: each kayaker their own internal competition, but all together at the end. The solidarity comes afterwards, when they realise everyone made it through the technical passage.
Couples: parallel adventure, where the glance during the descent is at the other kayak — watching how your partner reacts to the river, silently celebrating their moments.

FAQs
Is it harder than rafting?
It is different. In rafting, the group paddles together following the guide’s instructions. In kayaking, you control your own craft and make real-time decisions. The technical level is similar (Level 2), but the effort is more concentrated on your personal coordination. The guide accompanies throughout and adapts the pace to your progress.
Does the inflatable kayak capsize easily?
No. RocRoi’s inflatable kayaks are designed to be stable even in the hands of beginners. The wide hull design matters more than the rigidity of the material. Even if water gets in, the kayak floats. It is virtually impossible to sink.
What is the difference from rafting?
In rafting, everyone paddles together in one large raft following the guide’s instructions. In open kayak, each person navigates their own individual craft, makes their own decisions, and the guide accompanies by observing. It is autonomy versus group coordination.
Can you really learn to paddle in two hours?
Yes, you learn the fundamentals. Paddle technique, craft control, reading the current, reacting in whitewater. You will not be an expert, but after two hours on the Ésera with a guide you will know how to paddle and understand the river as an environment, not as a spectacle.
Can I choose not to paddle and just be a passenger?
This can be arranged in advance with RocRoi, but the essence of open kayak is that you paddle. If you prefer to be a passenger, beginner rafting is the better option.
