- Target audience: groups of friends and couples only — not families.
- Min / Max participants: 4 people / 6 people.
- Total duration: 6 hours (approximately 4 hours of actual activity in the canyon plus 1–1.5h approach on foot).
- Physical condition: excellent fitness; prior experience in technical canyoning or abseiling; tolerance of extreme cold; no physical limitations in shoulders, wrists or knees.
- Restrictions: not recommended for pregnant women, people with heart conditions, hypothermia issues, severe vertigo or active injuries; the instructor may deny participation if the technical level is assessed as insufficient.
- Season: July–September (outside this period meltwater flow makes the canyon inaccessible).
- Attitude: genuine technical experience, cold tolerance and respect for alpine terrain. The Lapazosa has no margin for superficial adventure tourism. The instructor’s word in the canyon is final, no exceptions.

FAQs
What makes the Lapazosa Canyon different from the Ordiso Canyon, both advanced level in Bujaruelo?
The Ordiso is advanced: minimum 4 people, water at 6–10°C, 6 hours. The Lapazosa is advanced+: minimum 4 people, water at 5–9°C, 7 hours with a 1–1.5h approach on foot. The Lapazosa has more abseils (12–18 vs. 8–12), greater maximum height (35m vs. 20m) and a more demanding technical character. If the Ordiso is alpine adventure canyoning, the Lapazosa is alpine challenge canyoning.
Is prior canyoning experience required for the Lapazosa?
Yes, it is essential. The Lapazosa is not a beginner or adventure-level canyon: it is advanced. The instructor may request a demonstration of technical level before confirming the booking. It is recommended to have completed at least the Sorrosal Canyon or the Ordiso Canyon as a minimum prior experience.
Why can it only be done from July to September?
The Lapazosa Canyon receives meltwater from glacial cirques at 2,800–3,000 metres. Before July, the flow is too high to descend safely and snow may cover the approach. After September, water and air temperatures make a seven-hour descent in high alpine terrain impossible without expedition equipment.
What happens if the weather deteriorates during the descent?
The Valle de Bujaruelo is in the peripheral zone of the National Park, with no vehicle access once the approach has begun. In the event of a storm or severe weather deterioration, the instructor manages the emergency protocol: the Refugio de Bujaruelo is less than 30 minutes on foot from the bottom of the canyon. The instructor may cancel or interrupt the activity at any point if conditions require it.
Is the Lapazosa Canyon inside Ordesa National Park?
The Lapazosa lies in the peripheral area of the Parque Nacional de Ordesa y Monte Perdido, in the Valle de Bujaruelo, which forms part of the transition zone of the UNESCO Global Geopark Sobrarbe-Pyrenees. It is not inside the strict National Park boundary but within its socioeconomic area of influence and the same natural ecosystem.
