Sea kayaking is a sport that is practiced in open or closed waters such as the Mediterranean Sea or lakes.
The origin of sea kayaking can be found more than 5,000 years ago in Alaska, Canada and Greenland. When some hunters used it to hunt, fish, transport game produce, and go on extensive excursions in search of prey.
Sea kayaks are small boats with a capacity for one person sitting inside the kayak and propelled with a paddle.
The sea kayak is a closed boat, unlike the open kayak, the main difference is that if we capsize in an open kayak we simply must turn it and board again. In the sea kayak we must empty the water content in order to continue navigation.
Sea kayaking is one of the most adventurous activities that allows you to maintain close contact with nature, which requires knowledge of various disciplines such as navigation, orientation, hiking without losing the spirit of exploration.
Sea kayaking on the Vilanova beach
At our base in Vilanova y la Geltrú we have rentals and guided outings with sea kayaks. In both options you can enjoy the Garraf coast, discover coves and beaches along the entire route and feel the sea breeze while enjoying one of the most beautiful activities to practice in nature.
During the tour, our guides will raise awareness about the importance of caring for our environment and the wildlife of the area.
This is an activity not suitable for all audiences, it is an activity that requires previous experience of handling kayaks and paddles. That is why we first recommend you to open kayak with another person or individually to practice.
If you choose the option of guided outing in a sea kayak in Playa Larga for 3 hours, you can navigate between Ribes Roges beach and La Playa Larga de Vilanova y la Geltrú observing the beauty of the natural landscapes that you will find along the way, among them Sant Gervasi beach and Cala Cucanya. The cala Cucanya is one of the smallest and most virgin beaches that we will meet along the way, with little influx of people in the months of June and July and ideal for stopping and taking a dip.
While if you choose the guided sea kayak expedition for 5 hours traveling along the Garraf coast, you will enjoy the most beautiful beaches in the area, such as Cala Vallcarca, Pebre beach, Port d’Aiguadolç, l’Home Mort beach and Far beach. L’Home Mort beach is a naturist beach located in a secluded corner south of the town of Sitges. The beach of l’Home Mort is separated from the beach of Roses by a small rocky ravine and both beaches draw a bay open to the winds of the area. It is a very intimate beach in a truly amazing and beautiful natural setting surrounded by cliffs and less than 10 meters wide.
Other activities that you can do in this center are paddle surf, open kayak, sailing, catamaran, pedalos, windsurf, surf and big SUP.
Meet us at the Ribes Roges beach every day of the year from 10am. We are waiting for you this summer when the situation returns to normal!
