SNOWSHOES STROLL TO THE PESSONS

 IMG_0224 « When we entered the yurt of Rocroi, we’ve been welcomed by a very pleasant lady. This one presented us to a guide, named Mario, who equipped us with adjusted snowshoes and sticks.

We chose a three hours stroll. Mario suggests to go to the bottom of the peak named Els Pessons that we can see up above. From here, it seems magnificent! We set off. Snowshoes are very practical; they allow us to walk in the deep snow without sinking.

“As written on the reservation coupon, we arrived at 8:00 p.m. at the Rocroi yurt, on the Grandvalira station with an unpronounceable name: Grau Roig. The guides welcome us. They equip us with helmets; brief us during 5 minutes and we ride on the snowmobiles.

WELCOME IN THE ROCROI’S MUSHERS UNIVERSE

Formerly called “walkers” or “wood runners”, the sled drivers are nowadays called “mushers”. Why? Because previously, the word “walk” was used to give to the dogs the order to move forward. Later, “walk” was transformed in “mush” by English Canadians, and led to the terms “mushing” and “musher “.

In Rocroi Andorra, we have three permanent mushers: Julian, Albert and Brei. They work exclusively with dogs and are the ones who take care of them day by day.
